Qld borders open to NSW: What drivers need to know
Club spokesperson Clare Hunter said while the borders had reopened, the unused concrete barriers still needed to be safely removed from the roadside.
“The northbound lanes of the M1 will be shut from 7pm to 11pm Monday night and traffic will be diverted onto the Gold Coast Highway while trucks remove the barriers, and then at 11pm the Gold Coast Highway will be closed and traffic will be re-routed onto the M1,” she said.
“Both the Highway and M1 are expected to be fully reopened by 5am tomorrow at the latest.”
It came as RACQ reminded drivers to expect changed road conditions at Queensland’s border, after restrictions were lifted for those who lived in or had visited Greater Sydney.
Ms Hunter said Queenslanders who had been in any part of New South Wales would now be able to re-enter the Sunshine State without having to quarantine or complete a border pass.
“If you’re driving into Queensland you don’t need exemption paperwork or to display an entry pass on your vehicle windscreen anymore, which is welcome news for those in border communities and visitors to New South Wales,” she said.
“There’s also no need to complete quarantine if you’ve come from Greater Sydney.”
Ms Hunter warned there would likely be more traffic on the roads, particularly around the border, as southerners flocked into Queensland.
“With the State now open to eight million Sydneysiders we know lots of people will be keen to holiday in our beautiful backyard – so our roads may be busy,” she said.
“If you are travelling around our major roads, plan your journey, allow extra time to get to your destination, pack your patience and remember to observe the Fatal Five."
