RACQ completes 755,000 roadside rescues in FY23
The RACQ’s ‘yellow truck feeling’ has been more visible than ever with the latest figures from the State’s largest roadside assistance fleet revealing RACQ patrols responded to more than 2,000 calls from motorists every day over the past financial year.
RACQ Chief Executive Assistance Glenn Toms said the roadside fleet was available 24/7, 365 days a year to help Queenslanders in need.
“RACQ responded to an average of 87 jobs per hour across Queensland, 755,000 in total during the year, and helped get 92% of drivers back on the road,” Mr Toms said.
“If you’ve ever been broken down on the side of the road, you’ll know that feeling of relief when one of RACQ’s patrol officers arrives to help. We call that the ‘yellow truck feeling’.”
The data revealed that RACQ patrols responded to more than 1,900 lock-in emergencies.
“Concerningly, we rescued 950 children and 862 animals that were locked in vehicles,” Mr Toms said.
“As we head into the warmer months, we urge motorists to never leave children or animals alone in the vehicle, even if it’s just for a moment.”
Mr Toms said the top roadside assistance callouts were battery-related issues, flat tyres and members being locked out of their vehicles.
“Our patrols helped more than 269,700 Queenslanders with battery-related issues, which was up by 1,000 on the previous year,” he said.
“This isn’t surprising. Modern motor vehicles have evolved to improve environmental performance and have innovative features and technology that require a lot more battery power to operate.
“We also responded to more than 71,000 members with a flat tyre, 29,500 members who were locked out of their vehicles and 8,000 members who had run out of fuel.”
The roadside assistance fleet also came to the aid of 203 mobility scooters and 326 wheelchairs. The demand for this service will continue to grow following the launch of a new suite of roadside assistance solutions in April 2023.
RACQ is the first roadside assistance provider in the country to offer integrated cover for everything from e-scooters, e-bikes, bicycles, wheelchairs and mobility scooters through to motor vehicles, motorbikes, large RVs and larger vehicles up to 8t.
“No matter what type of vehicle you are using to get around, our Roadside Assistance team is available to help, call us on 13 1111 or use the RACQ Roadside Assistance app,” Mr Toms said.
