Do you know how to navigate this Queensland roundabout?
Test your knowledge of the road rules with RACQ’s latest intersection series.
In this edition, RACQ Traffic and Safety Engineering Manager Greg Miszkowycz breaks down how to safely and correctly travel through the below roundabout at Paradise Road in Slacks Creek.
Drivers who wish to make a left turn (as shown in red) have the option to take the exit lane prior to the roundabout, bypassing it and the need to give way to traffic on the roundabout. This helps to improve efficiency, reduce delays, and improve safety.
Drivers can still make a left turn at the roundabout if they miss the bypass lane (red dotted arrow). At the end of the bypass lane, they are then required to merge by giving way to traffic in the continuing lane that has come from the roundabout.
The blue vehicle is required to indicate right on approach to the roundabout and through the roundabout, before indicating left as they exit. They should then turn off their indicator after they have exited. The blue vehicle should follow the arrow as indicated, following the ‘spiral’ lane markings to move from the right (inner) lane to the left (outer) lane to take the roundabout exit onto the Pacific Motorway northbound entry ramp.
The yellow circle shows a combined double left and single straight-ahead arrow marked on the road approaching the roundabout, showing that drivers can turn left from that lane at the roundabout to follow the red dotted arrow, or take the next left exit to enter the Pacific Motorway northbound entry ramp. The vehicle may also continue straight ahead through the roundabout. If driving straight through the roundabout, no indicator is required before entry or on the roundabout, but drivers must indicate left on exit and stop indicating once they have left the roundabout.
