Ford cuts price of two EV models
Ford Australia has slashed the prices of its electric Mustang Mach-E SUV and E-Transit commercial van by thousands in a bid to boost sales.
Ford Australia has slashed thousands off the price of its Mustang Mach-E SUV and E-Transit van, presumably in a bid to jump-start flagging sales.
The car maker announced revised manufacturer list pricing (MLP) across both model lines with all three Mustang Mach-E SUV models dropping by between $7,000 and $8,000, and the E-Transit van incurring a hefty $15,000 haircut.
New pricing for Mustang Mach-E models:
- The Select is $64,990 (down $8,000)
- The Premium is $79,990 (down $7,000)
- The GT is $97,990 (down $7,000).
The E-Transit all-electric van, meanwhile, has been reduced to $89,990, a drop of $15,000 over its previous $104,990 price tag.
Ford’s price cuts follow similar announcements from other brands including Jeep, which recently slashed $18,500 from its plug-in hybrid Grand Cherokee Summit Reserve 4xe, and Renault which shaved $10,000 off its Megane E-Tech electric car.
While new customers are big winners in such dramatic price reductions, it remains to be seen how existing owners will feel about the changes, which have the potential to drastically reduce the resale value of models that are already on the road.
The Mustang Mach-E launched in Australia in October 2023 with a three variant lineup including the entry level Select, mid-spec Premium, and top-of-the-line GT.
The Mustang Mach-E Select boasts a 71kWh lithium-ion phosphate battery, and a range of 470km (WLTP), with a single rear electric motor sending 198kW/430Nm to its rear wheels.
The mid-spec Mustang Mach-E Premium brings a larger 91kWh NMC (nickel cobalt manganese) battery, up to 600km of range, and a more powerful rear motor producing 216kW/430Nm.
The top-spec Mach-E GT gets the same 91kWh NMC battery as the Premium, but twin motors for all-wheel drive capability, and combined outputs of 358kW/860Nm.

The combination makes the GT the fastest Mach-E variant, delivering a blistering 0–100km/h sprint of just 3.7 seconds, but a lower 490km range.
That pace hasn’t been enough to fire up sales, however, and as at the end of March the Mustang Mach-E had shifted 168 units at an average of around 40 units per month, well behind rivals like the Kia EV6 (589) and the market-leading Tesla Model Y (6,835).
The workhorse Ford E-Transit launched in May 2023 and features a 68kWh battery and single rear-mounted electric motor delivering outputs of 198kW/430Nm, offering a range of up to 307km (WLTP) for the mid-roof version.
As at the end of March the E-Transit had managed just 15 sales in 2024, which placed it ahead of the Mercedes-Benz eVito (3), but behind the Peugeot e-Partner (26), and LDV eDeliver7 (28).
“These MLP price reductions offer even greater value to our customers and it makes these great vehicles an option for more people,” said Andrew Birkic, President and CEO of Ford Australia and New Zealand.
Ford also recently announced it was supporting customers with at-home infrastructure via a partnership with charging specialists EVIE.
The partnership provides a solution for both EVIE in-home chargers and public fast charging vouchers at EVIE branded public chargers.
“Being able to avoid the cost and inconvenience of the petrol station and just plug in while you’re at home is a big value-add for EV owners, so helping our customers to facilitate home charging while they’re at the Ford dealer makes perfect sense,” Mr Birkic said.
