Chinese luxury car contender for Australia
The hits keep coming from Chinese car maker as another new brand is announced for the Australian market.

MG Motor Australia has confirmed it will launch a new luxury brand IM to the Australian market later this year.
Described as a “leading global luxury car brand” that is “synonymous with premium finishes, high performance and innovative technology”, IM is already well established in China and is set to launch in other international markets, including Thailand this month.
IM stands for Intelligence in Motion, and the brand is the result of an electric vehicle joint venture between sate-owned Chinese automobile manufacturer SAIC Motor, which also owns the MG brand, and Chinese technology companies including Alibaba Group.

The brand will be known in Australia as ‘IM Presented by MG Motor,’ in an effort to leverage MG’s well-established presence here. In 2024 MG was Australia’s second-best selling EV brand.
The first vehicles of the new entity, the IM5 sedan and the IM6 SUV will arrive in Australian MG dealerships later this year, on an as yet undisclosed date.
MG Motor Australia’s Chief Executive Officer Peter Ciao said the vehicles’ cutting-edge innovation and elegant design would set a new benchmark for luxury electric driving in Australia.
“This is the future of premium electric mobility, and we’re proud to bring it to Australia and further extend our EV offering to Australian drivers,” Mr Ciao said.
