JAC Motors is set to showcase its fully electric T9 EV Dual-Cab 4X4 Ute at a revitalised 2025 Melbourne Motor Show.

Aussies ute drivers are still just getting their heads around the new wave of plug-in-hybrid utes from the likes of BYD and Ford, but JAC Motors is jumping straight into the deep end with its fully electric load lugger, the T9 EV.

While there’s no confirmation yet that JAC will launch the T9 EV dual-cab 4X4 ute locally, it has stolen a PR march on its rivals by declaring the ute will make its Australian premiere at the 2025 Melbourne Motor Show on 5-6 April.

The T9 EV ute shares its platform with the recently launched combustion-engined JAC T9 dual-cab 4X4, but does away with the ICE-engine and ancillaries, replacing them with an 88kW LFP battery in the floor and dual electric motors delivering combined outputs of 220kW/516Nm.

That’s compares with its stablemate’s 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine producing 125kW/410Nm and is enough to fire the T9 EV from 0-100km/h in a decently rapid 8.5 seconds, and deliver a WLTP driving range of 330km.

The numbers also compare favourably with the only other factory-built fully electric ute currently available on the Australian market, the LDV eT60 which costs a hefty $92,990 (MRLP), is available as a rear-wheel drive only, and boasts outputs of 130kW/310Nm and a claimed range of 330km.

However, LDV also has waiting in the wings its new e-Terron 9 dual-cab electric 4x4, which is currently slated for a mid-2025 launch, and which boasts outputs of 125kW from its front motor and 200kW from the rear, 0-100km/h acceleration of 5.8 seconds, and a range of 430km from its 102kWh battery.

The JAC T9 EV is already on sale in China and several other international markets but it’s unclear at this stage whether importer LTS Auto is serious about adding the battery-electric dual-cab 4X4 to its local lineup.

However, if they do go ahead, the T9 EV has decent working credentials including a payload rating of 900kg and a tub that’s wide enough to fit a full-size Australian pallet between the wheel arches.
