JAC reveals Hunter PHEV ute
Hard on the heels of the release of its turbodiesel powered T9 dual-cab 4X4 ute, Chinese car maker JAC has revealed its new Hunter PHEV.

In extraordinary scenes at a revitalised 2025 Melbourne Motor Show that saw multiple Australian new model reveals and several global firsts, JAC Motor’s has unveiled its JAC Hunter plug-in hybrid dual-cab 4X4 ute for the first time.
The JAC Hunter combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with front and rear electric motors to deliver what the car maker claims will be a class-leading 385kW of power and 1000Nm of torque, when the new model goes on sale in early 2026.
Based on the recently launched JAC T9 dual-cab 4X4 ute, the Hunter will go head-to-head with the BYD Shark and Ford Ranger PHEV but outpoints both rivals for power and efficiency, according to the brand’s Australian importer, LTS Auto.
The recently released BYD Shark boasts claimed outputs of 321kW/650Nm and a battery-electric range of 100km (NEDC), while the as-yet-unreleased Ford Ranger PHEV utilises a 2.3-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developing 138kW/411Nm, augmented by a 75kW electric motor for combined outputs of 207kW/697Nm and an electric range of 49km (NEDC).
Importer LTS Auto said it was targeting an electric-only driving range of at least 100km from the Hunter’s lithium-iron phosphate battery pack, which is enough to cover most daily commutes without using any fuel.
The JAC Hunter also features a vehicle-to-load (V2L) system that allows owners to power tools, appliances, and even provide emergency backup power from the vehicle's battery when required.
Inside the cabin, the JAC Hunter exhibits the same design and features as the JAC T9 turbodiesel, including a 10.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, alongside a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster.
The Hunter will also feature a comprehensive suite of driver assistance technologies, including enhanced autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go functionality, and a 360-degree camera system. The closely related JAC T9 was recently awarded a five-star ANCAP safety rating.
No details of payload, or towing capacity were provided at the reveal, but JAC claims the Hunter been designed to offer the hard-working payload and towing capabilities Australians expect of a dual-cab ute, while its dual electric motor all-wheel drive system promises on- and off-road capability.
The JAC Hunter is due in local showrooms in the first quarter of 2026, with pricing and specifications to be announced closer to that time.
