Scenic Rim – nature’s playground
Photo; Tourism and Events Queensland.
The Scenic Rim features seven distinctively different areas: Beaudesert and Kooralbyn, Boonah and surrounds, Canungra and Beechmont, Kalbar and surrounds, Mount Barney and Rathdowney, Tamborine Mountain, and The Lost World and Christmas Creek.
Covering more than 4,000 square kilometres at the foothills of the Great Dividing Range, the Scenic Rim is known for its breathtaking scenery that includes more than 30,000 hectares of parklands and three lakes: Moogerah, Maroon and Wyaralong.
Visitors are spoilt for choice with six national parks in the region, including Tamborine, Queensland’s oldest national park; Lamington; Mount Barney; Main Range; Moogerah Peaks and Mount Chinghee.
Rich in history and traditions, its roots run deep.
The region’s Indigenous heritage harks back to when ancestral spirits created the landscape and all living things.
This connection continues with the traditional custodians of the Scenic Rim; the Mununjali, Ugarapul and Wangerriburra communities and Yugambeh language group.
Our natural history dates back more than 26 million years to when the region was a volcanic hotspot.
The seismic activity led to the creation of the spectacular mountain range and the rich basalt soil has allowed the local flora and fauna to flourish.
In the 1800s, the area emerged as a key farming and timber region – rural links that proudly continue today.
There’s lots of ways to visit our producers, set aside Saturday 26 August for the next Scenic Rim Winter Farm Gate Trail.
It’s the ultimate foodie day trip when the farmers, growers, producers, winemakers, distillers, brewers and flavour-makers open their gates for a day celebrating where your food comes from.
