What's a pre-existing condition?

A pre-existing condition simply means your pet had an injury or illness (signs, symptoms, treatment, or a vet diagnosis) before your first policy with us started. Refer to our Product Disclosure Statement (PDS), any applicable Supplementary PDS and Target Market Determinations for more information.

Can a pre-existing condition be covered?

We will waive the pre-existing condition if your vet certifies your pet has been symptom free for 18 months and the condition is not lifelong with no cure. We will send you written confirmation agreeing to cover your pet for that condition under your policy and an updated Certificate of Insurance.

To submit your application for your pet’s pre-existing condition to be waived:

1. You need to provide a full treatment history from each vet you have attended with your pet to certify that your pet’s been free of clinical signs, symptoms and reoccurrence of the pre-existing condition for the past 18 months.
2. Complete our pre-existing condition waiver form.
3. Lodge your form and full treatment history via email or drop it into an RACQ store.
4. We’ll look at your case and provide written confirmation on the outcome of your request.

Can my pet be insured?

Most pets can get pet insurance regardless of their breed and health conditions. This means you could pay less if your pet is young or considered a healthier breed than others.
