RACQ bolsters resources following SEQ storms

RACQ has brought in extra resources to help its members in the wake of dangerous storms across South East Queensland.

RACQ Group CEO David Carter said 7,350 insurance claims had been lodged for the storms between Christmas and New Year's Eve.

“As at 10 January, we’ve received 6,342 claims for home insurance and 1,008 for motor following a series of destructive storms in South East Queensland,” Mr Carter said.

“We have increased our capacity to receive calls and process claims, emergency make-safe works are underway, and our team is working hard to organise temporary accommodation and emergency cash payments for members who need it.

“We encourage members to lodge a claim as soon as they can so we can get repairs underway as soon as possible.

“It doesn’t matter if you can’t find your insurance papers, as we will have your details on file and only need your name and address to start the claim process.

“For a quick and easy process, members can lodge their claim online and upload photos of damage via the online portal. Alternatively, they can call us on 13 72 02.”

With SEQ's storm season far from over, Mr Carter is reminding members that safety is the number one priority.

“While lodging your claim is important, safety always comes first. Please do not take unnecessary risks by going outside or driving during dangerous weather events and call 000 immediately if you are experiencing an emergency,” he said.

“If you haven’t already, also make sure your home is storm ready. Tie down or store away any loose items and outdoor furniture, keep your vehicles undercover when possible, clear your gutters, check your roof for any loose tiles or leaks, cut back trees and move dead branches away from your house.”

Despite storms in the State’s South East, Mr Carter reassured members RACQ is still well-resourced to assist with recoveries from Cyclone Jasper in Far North Queensland and the destructive hailstorm which hit the Wide Bay region earlier this month.

“Following Cyclone Jasper, RACQ has received 732 insurance claims and we continue to be on the ground in Far North Queensland getting members back on their feet as quickly as possible,” he said.

“We have staff continuing to assist members make claims online, over the phone, and in our stores.

“Our teams also remain in Gympie and Maryborough working through 1,459 insurance claims following a severe hailstorm in early December.

“Our assessors and builders are in all regions hit by this month’s destructive weather and are working hard to get repairs completed as soon as possible.

“December has been a difficult month for many Queenslanders, and we want to reassure our members that we will continue to be there for you when you need us.”
