Helping to drive a positive future for all Queenslanders

RACQ has provided $8.4 million in support to Queensland communities in FY24 through its RACQ Foundation, Local Giving program as well as other sponsorship and education initiatives.

As a club which exists for all Queenslanders and aims to make a tangible difference in local communities, the support from these initiatives goes beyond the dollar value.

The Foundation provided 28 community grants and played an equally important role in providing people power on the ground through its Community Assistance Projects.

In FY24, 183 volunteers contributed more than 8,343 hours through four major projects.

Two of these projects, in Laidley and Blackbutt, involved providing nature-based solutions for disaster resilience as part of expanding the program expansion to supporting climate resilient communities.

In March, Foundation volunteers spent a week planting trees and restoring vegetation at the Mulgowie Farming Company.

In collaboration with Healthy Land and Water Australia, the project contributed to the Laidley Creek Restoration Master Plan with the intention of reducing biodiversity loss, erosion, and siltation if flooding were to impact the region.

RACQ Head of Sustainability Will Soutar said it was a natural evolution for the Club to help communities complete work that reduced the impact of potential natural disasters.

“Amid a rapidly changing climate and after seven severe weather events impacted the State over summer, it’s more important than ever to build stronger and more resilient communities,” Mr Soutar said.

“We are always proud to support Queenslanders at the grassroots level and we are pleased to see that our commitments are making a real impact.”

The year also saw four new funding categories launched as part of RACQ’s Local Giving program.

Mr Soutar said the new categories were designed to continue supporting clubs as they worked toward their sustainability goals.

“In the past 12 months, 41 grants worth more than $20,000 have been contributed to community groups and organisations across Queensland through our Local Giving program,” Mr Soutar said.

“With 27 RACQ stores covering both metro and regional areas, it’s been great to see our people building connections in their local communities.

“Similar to our work through the RACQ Foundation, we’ve also seen Local Giving recipients prioritising sustainability initiatives such as community gardens, irrigation, composting and recycling systems  – to name a few.

“Our connection to Queensland communities is at the core of everything we do, and we are looking forward to progressing our on-the-ground support in FY25 with more community grants available and Community Assistance Projects planned.”
