RACQ teams ready to assist as severe weather continues
RACQ teams are on stand-by to support members and communities as the effects from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred continue to cause damage across South East Queensland and northern New South Wales.

The cyclone has been downgraded to a tropical low and flood warnings remain in place. Hundreds of thousands of homes remain without power as the focus shifts to flooding concerns.
RACQ Managing Director and Group CEO David Carter said frontline teams were working tirelessly to assess the situation and coordinate their response in impacted areas.
“We want to remind members who experience prolonged power outages that they can access food spoilage payments under their contents insurance policy,” Mr Carter said.
“When it’s safe, we encourage members to lodge their claim online and upload photos of the damage via the online portal or call us on 13 72 02.
“Our team can then start the claims process by arranging emergency make-safe work, organise temporary accommodation and provide payments or funds for emergency purchases.”
If you need urgent help, call your local SES on 132 500 and if you see an electrical risk call Energex on 13 19 62.
As at 9am Saturday 8 March, RACQ had received 123 claims, 108 for home and 15 for motor.
“Our thoughts are with those who have been affected and as soon as it is safe, our teams will be on their way to help,” Mr Carter said.
“Safety is the number one priority, and we urge members and the community to listen to emergency warnings and advice.”
Mr Carter assured RACQ Insurance policy holders that their home and contents policies cover claims arising from cyclone, flood, storm and storm surge events.
He also said the Club’s roadside assistance services have resumed across parts of region.
Preparing your claim:
If you can safely return to your home:
- Making notes and taking photos of your belongings will make it easier to submit any claims.
- It’s OK to throw away all spoiled food in your refrigerator- you don’t need to wait for an assessor to visit your home. Make sure you take pictures before throwing these items away.
- Keep a record of model numbers or serial numbers of items you are throwing away to help us replace them.
- It’s OK to remove material and fabrics such as carpets if they are wet to avoid mould growing. Take a photo to help with replacement.
- Make a list of essentials you will need to replace, such as bedding, clothing and food. Keep all receipts from these purchases.
- Remember safety is the number one priority.
