Mobility Centre a venue for all occasions.

The RACQ Mobility Centre has evolved beyond being a driver training facility to become a multi-purpose venue for hire.

From its humble origins as a driver training facility, the RACQ Mobility Centre has evolved into a versatile space with myriad applications.

Nestled amid 45ha of bushland at Mount Cotton, the facility can now add ‘film set’ to that list.

The Mobility Centre was used to film scenes for the television series Apples Never Fall, based on the best-selling novel by Australia’s Lianne Moriarty and starring Annette Bening and Sam Neill.

Mobility Centre Manager Robert Carnell said the use of the facility for a film set confirmed its versatility.

“It’s not every day that the Mobility Centre is used as a location for a major television series, but it shows what a unique and multi-faceted venue we have,” Mr Carnell said.

RACQ took over ownership of the facility from the State Government in 2019 and, after a $15 million renovation, opened as the RACQ Mobility Centre of Excellence in 2020.

The centre is home to an off-road 4WD track, skidpan and multiple vehicle manoeuvring areas suitable for large vehicles and caravans, that allow drivers to learn how to handle a variety of conditions.

The main feature is its 3.5km circuit, which replicates conditions found on Queensland roads, including cambers, corners, hairpin bends, a floodway, multilanes and sweeping curves.

However, Business Development and Events Coordinator Kelly Gray said there was much more to the Mobility Centre than its driver training facilities.

“The Mobility Centre is a stunning venue for everything from corporate events and product launches to fundraisers and weddings,” Ms Gray said.

“The beautiful bushland setting and onsite facilities make it ideal to host almost any occasion and our event management staff can help you organise a function to remember.”

The complex has multiple training and conference rooms, and event spaces available.

“The Mobility Centre recently underwent a refurbishment that saw all conference rooms and facilities given a refresh to ensure they have a more modern look and feel,” Ms Gray said.

“We are proud to have a facility that is the ideal venue for almost any corporate or social occasion.”

Apart from the occasional film crew, the facility is regularly used by The Porsche Experience, Department of Transport and Main Roads, Volvo, Isuzu, Volkswagen and Mitsubishi.
